Professional Bio

Dr. Hou’s methodological research involves the development of innovative statistical models and computational algorithms for unraveling the genetic architecture of complex traits and biological processes in humans and other organisms. Several research papers Dr. Hou has participated in have been published in peer-reviewed journals, including Biostatistics, Statistics in Medicine, Journal of Theoretical Medicine, Genetical Research, and Genetics.

Dr. Hou has collaborated on many research studies with physicians and professors in various departments of the Colleges of Medicine, Education, Liberal Arts and Sciences, and Public Health and Health Professions. He has been the statistician on two longitudinal studies supported by NIH over multiple funding cycles (Project CARE, a study of prenatal cocaine influence on child development; ADHD Detection and Services Use, a study of service use for children with Attention Deficit Disorder). Currently he is the lead statistician in the Cancer center at UF.
