Associate Director, Cancer Prevention & Control

The University of Florida Department of Epidemiology and Health Policy Research (www.ehpr.ufl.edu) in the College of Medicine is recruiting a senior faculty leader to serve both as the Epidemiology Division Director and as Associate Director for Cancer Prevention & Control in the Cancer Center (www.ufscc.ufl.edu) at the University of Florida. The position provides numerous exciting opportunities for transdisciplinary collaboration and leadership: the Moffitt Cancer Center in Tampa (www.moffitt.org) has recently affiliated with the University of Florida; a new $388m Cancer Hospital is nearing completion on the UF campus; the Emerging Pathogens Institute (www.epi.ufl.edu) continues rapid expansion with a new $56m research facility under construction; and the Malcom Randall Veterans Administration Medical Center (www.northflorida.va.gov) and Shands Hospitals (www.shands.org) are co-located and partners with the College of Medicine. The environment provides rich opportunities for novel cross-disciplinary studies in cancer epidemiology and prevention, including roles of infectious disease in cancer.
We seek a cancer epidemiologist who is a scientist-teacher-leader committed to population sciences research and who creates opportunities and bridges for collaborations with diverse clinical and population researchers. The candidate will lead an existing nationally and internationally renowned faculty that has numerous funded research projects underway to the next stage of growth and development of the Division of Epidemiology. This will include recruitment of additional faculty at all levels, expansion of graduate teaching programs, as well as develop externally funded research programs with an initial focus on cancer epidemiology and control.
Primary responsibilities are: (1) develop and implement a cancer epidemiology program in collaboration with the Cancer Center at UF, the H. Lee Moffitt Cancer Center, the Emerging Pathogens Institute, and selected clinical areas in the VA Medical Center; (2) develop and implement a strong externally funded research program; (3) collaborate in research with Health Science Center and H. Lee Moffitt faculty; and (4) lead doctoral and masters epidemiology teaching programs in the College of Medicine.
Specific requirements for the position is: (1) earned doctoral degree in epidemiology or equivalent; (2) eligibility for an appointment as an associate or full professor; (3) recognized achievement and commitment to excellence in research and teaching; (4) a track record of extramural funding; (5) a recognized record of research and scholarship in cancer epidemiology; and (6) administrative experience in a multidisciplinary academic research environment. Prior experience as Principal Investigator of NIH or other competitive federally funded research projects is essential. A track record of working in interdisciplinary settings is essential.
The Department of Epidemiology and Health Policy Research includes 23 faculty in three Divisions (Epidemiology, Health Policy/Outcomes Research, and Biostatistics) with over $12 million annually in sponsored research. In addition, there are 60 professional and support staff. Departmental research includes a diverse blend of observational studies, intervention trials, policy evaluations, health outcome studies, health services research, and methods. The Department currently offers an MS program in epidemiology a PhD program in epidemiology. The Department also participates in the PhD Interdisciplinary Program in Biomedical Sciences and in the General Clinical Research Center.
